Moody shades of gray, green, and charcoal comprise this masculine, hand painted landscape. A peaceful quality emanates from this piece on canvas, which has been stretched and attached to wooden stretchers. A petite, black gallery frame completes each piece. Due to the handcrafted nature of this artwork, each piece may have subtle differences.
James Pratt is a world renowned palette knife artist and is considered as one of the "Modern Masters." James was born in Wellington, New Zealand, moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980's and became a US citizen in 2013- James and his wife, Beverly, are now living in a country home outside of Charleston, SC and when not there, they enjoy spending time at their home in Southern France. James paints with a palette knife which he has been using for over fifteen years. He studied how to paint Alla Prima and finds the knife the best tool to encourage a lively and impressionistic treatment; providing an exciting contrast of scale, adding greatly to the impact of the finished painting. James likes to create art that is painterly with lots of color and texture. While at his home in southern France, he spends time traveling to the village marketplaces, sea ports, and cafes throughout Europe where he carefully composes scenes through the lens of his digital camera and then sketches the mood and in either pencil or watercolor. Upon returning to his studio, he puts palette knife to canvas.
